Lifelong Improvements Through Fitness Together (LIFT)

— Written By and last updated by

LIFT is an evidence-based fitness program that can help develop relationships, improve functional fitness, and improve emotional health. On average, adults should complete 150 minutes of moderate or 75 minutes of vigorous physical activity a week. This fitness program offers twice-a-week flexibility and strength training for eight weeks.

With restrictions and precautions in place to combat COVID-19, this program will be offered via Zoom for adults. Sessions will be recorded in addition to live sessions for registered participants to engage in activities. When this program was previously offered in Stanly and Montgomery counties, participants expressed high satisfaction with the program and stated they would recommend it to others. They also expressed interest in helping plan another series and recruit additional participants.

N.C. Cooperative Extension Family and Consumer Science agents in Alexander, Anson, Montgomery, and Stanly counties have partnered together to offer this program in multiple counties. LIFT is a great way to get adults that have felt isolated and limited with opportunities to engage in regular physical activities during these trying times to become involved, meet, and socialize with others and become active.

For more information about the LIFT program please contact the following agents in their county office – Der Holcomb (Alexander) – 828.632.3125, Roshunda Terry (Anson) -704.694.2915, Rhonda Peters (Montgomery) – 910.576.6011 and Hayley Cowell (Stanly) – 704.983.3987.

Our program will start in October, be on the lookout for dates, times, and registration links on each county’s website, Facebook page, and other media outlets.
