The Anson Cooperative Extension Service will host a pond weed ID class on Monday, August 4, 2014 between 6:00-7:30 p.m. and offer 1.5 hours of pesticide credits under the categories A, N, D, and X. The class is $15 and is limited to 20 people. It is open to the public. Please pre-register at the Anson Cooperative Extension office at 501 McLaurin Street, Wadesboro, NC 28170 to secure your seat.

This time of year, ponds may be covered by one or more aquatic weeds that interfere with fishing, irrigation, and aesthetics. Having assisted Anson County pond owners with aquatic weed management problems for over 8 years, horticulture Agent, Aimee Colf, says, “the most common mistakes people make in managing aquatic weeds are incorrect plant ID and failure to implement long-term management strategies.”

This class will show participants pond weeds collected from around Anson County and cover plant identification, long term management using chemical, physical, mechanical, and biological control measures. It will also cover herbicide application tips and prevention of fish kills related to weed management. Participants are welcome to bring in pond weeds for ID to this workshop.
