“Celebrate Agriculture this Weekend at Ag Expo and Fair”

The annual fair, expo, and youth livestock show are scheduled for this Friday and Saturday, September 27 and 28, at the 2013 Anson Ag Expo and Fair. Returning crowd favorites will all be offered again this year.

The weekend’s festivities kick off at 6:00 p.m. on Friday at the Lockhart-Taylor Center of SPCC. Starting on Thursday, fair entries will be received in the Ingram Room of the Lockhart-Taylor Center from 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Friday’s schedule includes:

Educational Posters and Displays Registration & Set Up, 4:00 p.m.

Educational Posters and Displays Judging, 5:00 p.m.

Fair and Expo Open to the Public, 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Scarecrow Contest Registration, 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Youth Creative Squash Challenge Registration, 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Pee Wee Goat Show Weigh-In, 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Pee Wee Goat Show, 5:30 p.m.

Youth Goat Show Weigh-In, 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

4-H Youth Goat Show, 6:00 p.m.

Food will be offered by Eager Beavers 4-H Club, Deep Creek Masonic Lodge 382 and VFW Post 10403. Menus include hot dogs, hamburgers, pork skins, popcorn, chips, brownies and drinks. Other vendors include James Groepler with handcrafted furniture, the State Employees’ Credit Union “Fat Cat” mascot, Anson County Farm Bureau, and Anson County FFA.

Information will be available from the USDA Farm Service Agency, Farm Fresh Ventures, the NC Forest Service who will have some of their equipment on display, and the Cooperative Extension booth, which will also serve as the information station. Finally, the Anson County Beekeepers will be selling honey, candy and t-shirts, while providing some beekeeping education.

Celebrate Anson Agriculture t-shirts are on sale now for youth and adult sizes, $6 and $8, and will be on sale during the event in the Extension booth, the day of the event. All youth that wear their Ag Expo shirts will be entered twice into the drawing for a new bicycle.
